Netherlands - 100 mile bike ride (160km) around the Zuidersee, starting and ending in Amsterdam.
Long runs in Spain and a hike on the most dangerous path in the world, the Caminito del Rey
Dresden, Germany - 26 mile (40k) run through the sandstone peaks of Saxon Switzerland National Park
Sweden - The course for the Lidingöloppet 30k trail race is open year round, and just a 15 minute taxi from the center of Stockholm
Germany - 13 mile (21k) point-to-point hike from one end of the Königssee Lake to the other where you take the electric boat back to the start.
Denmark - 50k on the Island of Møn including the soaring white chalk cliffs of Møns Klint
Bulgaria - Over 70k of running in two days across the Rila Mountains along an old dam maintenance road
Belgium - Over a marathon trail running through the Sonian Forest just south of Brussels, Belgium
Austria and Slovenia - Over 70k of running from Schwanberg, Austria to Maribor, Slovenia. The run is made up of beautiful trails crossing farms, forests, and wineries with plenty of rolling hills adding up to nearly 6000 feet (2000m) of elevation gain.
Hungary - I explored almost 27 miles / 45k of trails just a 40 minute drive from the Budapest, Hungary airport in the area of the Danube-Ipoly National Park. This is an excellent region for trail running just northwest of Budapest with many miles of forest trails. On my run I scaled mountains with commanding views of the city and surrounding countryside. In addition, there are interesting rock formations, hidden granite houses and medieval castles.
Poland - Excellent trails in the less well known Beskid Mountain Range of Southern Poland on the Main Beskid Trail.
Sweden - Stay at the most primitive hotel in Sweden, the Kolarbyn Eco lodge. A great starting point for an ultrarun on the Bruksleden Trail
Cyprus - 60k run in the Troodos Mountains from the Kykkos Monastery to Kakopetria along the E4 Long Distance Trail.
Romania - 50k weekend of running through Bucharest, including a wilderness nestled within the city limits
Czech Republic - An attempt to reach the highest point in the Czech Republic by foot, but foiled by whiteout conditions
Croatia - Snowy runs, including to a castle, in the mountains on the northern edge of Zagreb
Spain - Over 70k of running into and out of seaside towns nestled within the mountains of Mallorca
