Top 5 ultrarunning destinations with friends
For most of my ultrarunning destination trips, I’m solo as it’s very hard to coordinate trips with my work schedule. However, when stars align and a friend can make the trip, it’s great to share the experience. The hallmark of these trips is they are very accessible from cities I either live or work in, making it convenient for others to come along.
My Top 5 ultrarunning destinations with friends and why are:
AEP Recreation Land: Just a hour and a half drive from Columbus, Ohio and also includes portions of the Buckeye Trail.
Shawnee State Forest Backpacking Trail: A two hour drive from Columbus, Ohio, but a world away with a long loop trail located in Ohio’s largest state forest
Thuringia Forest: Accessible by train from Berlin, Germany in one of the most untouched nature areas in Germany.
Smokey Mountains Tennessee: A six hour drive from Columbus, Ohio with a hostel located right on the trail for your weekend base.
Wicklow Way: Just a 30 minute drive south from the Dublin, Ireland airpot that has direct connections from many cities across the world.
